Emergency Repeat prescriptions

Our Dispensary Team generally process prescriptions requests within 24hours after which your request is sent through to your nominated pharmacy, or dispensed by us. Sometimes there may be delays in this turnaround time which can include Bank Holidays, Staff leave or awaiting GP authorisation.

Whilst we encourage patients to submit repeat prescriptions requests in good time so you are never without yout medication, there may be a time when plans go awry and you need your medication urgently and we are closed.

Did you know your local pharmacy can help with this? They are able to issue up to 30 days worth of repeat prescription medication. Please click below for more information

Repeat Prescriptions

Online repeat prescription ordering via our clinical system.  To access this facility please call us to obtain a log-in and password details. Once you have registered for the online service (at the surgery) you will need to wait 48 hours for this registration to take effect.

You CANNOT do it on behalf of someone else unless you have their written permission or the person is under the age of 16.

Use the link at top of this page to access the online system.

Requests can also be dropped into the prescription box or sent via the post with a self addressed envelope.

Please note we do not accept telephone or e-mail requests for repeat prescriptions, except in exceptional circumstances.

It’s important that you only order medication that you need, report to your GP and pharmacist that you are not taking some of your medication or not as compliant as you should be. Not taking medicines that are prescribed for you costs the NHS and taxpayers a lot of money, so please help to reduce unnecessary waste.

Secondary Care medication changes

Currently many appointments with our local hospitals are conducted over the phone, some of these may result in changes to current or the addition of new medication.

We ask that our patients are aware these changes will not happen instantly. The surgery will need to await correspondence from the hospital (for both routine and urgent amendmants) before any change to/ or the addition of medications are made, and this can take several weeks.

We suggest that if you attend a hospital appointment and you are given the option to collect a prescription from the hospital pharmacy whilst you are there, that you choose to do so.  This will result in changes to your treatment being started more promptly than waiting for your GP to receive your clinic letter.

Whilst we know waiting for correspondence from the hospital can be frustrating it is essential in allowing us to prescribe safely under the guidance of our secondary care colleagues and ultimately will result in better care to you, our patients.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charges

NHS prescription charges from 1 April 2023

  • From 1 April 2023, the prescription charge will increase to £9.65 for each medicine or appliance dispensed (30p increase).
  • The cost of prescription pre-payment certificates (PPCs) will also be increased (£31.25 for 3-month and £111.60 for 12-month).
  • The new HRT PPC will cost £19.30

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
