URGENT! Appointment system changes 18/03/2020

As of this afternoon (18/03/2020) The George Clare Surgery will be stopping all access to the surgery unless you have a prebooked confirmed appointment.

A member of the team will be available at the front entrance to allow access to the building if appropriate. Please note you will be asked screening questions prior to access being granted.

Patients must attend appointments on their own unless it is a child then they may have one carer with them.

For prescriptions, the team member will ask for your details and collect your prescription for you, you will be asked to wait at the entrance. Medication queries will be only be taken over the phone between the hours of 10:00- 12:30 & 13:30 - 16:00. Do not attend the practice.

Due to high demand for prescriptions, please allow 7 days working days for processing.

For suspected urine infections, please donot bring a water sample, please ring the surgery at 08:30am and request a telephone call from a clinician.

Our telephones are exceptionally busy at present in all departments and would ask you that you are patient if you are atruggling to get through.

Can we please remind you not to attend the practice if you or a member of your household have  symptoms or a confirmed diagnosis.

 

We have implemented the above to ensure the health and wellbeing of both our staff and patients and to ensure safe running of the practice.

COVID-19 (updated 17/03/2020)

If you or a household member have either:

  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back

AND/OR

  • a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home

Living alone

If you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started.

Other household members

If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.


For anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14 day isolation period.

COVID-19 MED 3 ('FIT NOTE')

 

Requests for certification of absence falls in to the following five catagories:

1. Personally affected so isolating for seven days

2. Personally affected and remaining unwell for over seven days

3. Household contact affected so isolating for fourteen days as per government advice

4. At risk group so following government advice

5. Those in full time education.

1. Personally affected so isolating for seven days

Patients can and should self-certify for the first seven days as normal if they are unfit to work.

They do not need to contact their GP.

2. Personally affected and remaining unwell for over seven days

If they remain unwell and unfit to work after seven days the current advice is to visit www.111.nhs.uk where there is an online self-assessment tool; the patient may be invited to call 111 and given further advice and a MED3 certificate emailed to them.

They do not need to contact their GP.

3. Household contact affected so isolating for fourteen days as per government advice

4. At risk group so following government advice

GPs cannot and are not the gatekeeper of the statutory sick pay system. Employers are responsible for putting in place arrangements for home/remote working where this is possible. Where it is not, the employee may self-certify and return to work following the relevant absence which their employer may authorise as per government advice. Where they do become unwell during or after this time, point 1 and 2 applies.

They do not need to contact their GP.

5. Those in full time education.

There is no NHS requirement to issue certification to schools or colleges to confirm absence. These organisations must work with parents and students to ensure that any absence is appropriately recorded, obviating the need for a ‘doctor’s note’.

Access and Facilities

 

  • There are reserved spaces for the disabled in our car park. Wheelchair access is available at the main entrance to the building.
  • If attending the surgery unaccompanied, you can get help with the front door by ringing the doorbell, which is located near the front door letter-box.
  • A toilet for the disabled is located adjacent to the main entrance porch.
  • Patients who experience difficulty with hearing may request the use of our Portable hearing loop. In order to use this, you will need a hearing aid with a T-switch. Please ask when attending for your appointment.
  • Baby chaning facilities can be found within the toilet block adjacent to reception and the main entrance porch.
